If you know me then you’ll know I’m always very last minute with party planning and preparation and between birthdays there’s a whole year so ample time to plan and prep but I tell myself I work better under pressure. I needn’t have worried though, and in fact didn’t, as knew I had Party Pieces “up my sleeve” as it were taking the pressure off as it’s very much “a one stop shop” for all things party that I love. With Party Pieces I knew that Tiggy’s birthday party was going to be just perfect and my being last minute only added to the excitement of seeing everything come together on the day. Tiggy’s third birthday was to be a unicorn themed party and there’s plenty of unicorn products to choose from with Party Pieces so I was spoilt for choice! I opted for scene setting items, balloons, decorations and bunting knowing that these items would make for a pretty backdrop to the party. Unicorns and rainbows are so “on trend” right now that I coupled the unicorn party items with rainbow brights and “waa-laa” as they say, an amazing array of colours and items all came together perfectly. Party tableware is essential so tablecloths, plates, cutlery, cups, even the finer details of mini scalloped cups for the children to put their sweets from the sweet stand into, (yes Party Pieces do that too!) were ordered and Tiggy’s favourite item she said was the plates bless her (they were very pretty) but it was, without doubt, the unicorn piñata. Unicorn hats, balloons to decorate yourself, the unicorn garland and cupcake kit were all so gorgeous and made for it to be all that extra special as I knew Tiggy would love making the balloons, her brothers too! Plus I knew the cupcakes we’d make would go down a treat here! Party Pieces even made a personalised banner with Tiggy’s name on it and seeing Tiggy’s joy at helping me open up the packages of all her wonderful party pieces was absolutely amazing and I knew we were in for a truly magical party! To follow more adventures with Tiggy, head over to my blog, Little Miss Tiggy, and Instagram. I’m spending my last few days of my vacay in Prague before heading back home on Friday, it’s been an amazing experience so far! Today I’m happy to share a few new fabric and wallpaper prints I designed and are now available in my Spoonflower shop. The first pattern I designed is Blown Sand, it was inspired by the sculptural pattern of sand on a beach. It’s available as fabric and wallpaper in six colors: peacock, taupe, moss, spa blue, ebony, and apricot. Here it is styled as wallpaper, I think it would look so cool in a bedroom or bathroom. :)
I created jagged shapes that mimicked the horizontal flow of sand then colorized it to give it a subtle watercolor effect.
Next is the Watercolor Leaf collection, available in five colors: apricot, peacock blue, spa blue, taupe, and celery.
This print was inspired by nature, I created a basic leaf repeat then colorized each one to give it tonal qualities in a singular colorway. Each print is mostly one color but incorporates paler and darker versions of that hue.
Finally, I added a Brushstroke Stripe in three color combinations, I’ll add more stripe combinations in different colors later this summer. Roostery, the sister company of Spoonflower, offers custom sewn home décor and bedding, here’s my Summer Stripe in Apricot as a round tablecloth: This stripe is so great as a throw pillow and as a lumbar pillow ! If you’re looking for an easy summer sewing project, try one of these two tote bag projects, featuring fabric designs from past collections: Simple Tote Bag in Indigo and Marine in my Sketched Peonies pattern: Grommet Top Tote in Go With the Flow fabric: For those of you that don’t sew, I’ll show you my method for making curtain panels and pillow covers without a sewing machine later this week. Stay tuned. These summer prints are light and bright, look for deeper tones and new patterns in autumn. :)
Greetings friends! Today I’m spending my last day in Belgium, and I’m sharing little snapshots of my trip on Instagram stories, follow along there! Tomorrow I fly to Prague and I’ll spend the next six days in the Czech Republic with my very good friend Ingrid. She lives in the States during the school year and in Brno in the summer (what a life, right?) We met last year in a fitness class and we’ve been good friends ever since, so I’m happy to be spending time in her home country meeting her friends and seeing the sights. I’m such a lucky girl. Next week I’ll be sharing a few new summer fabric and wallpaper prints I designed, look for those on Monday! Today I’ve just arrived in Belgium and I’ll be spending the next few days exploring this exquisite country for the first time. I’m traveling with one of my best travel buddies and we’re having a blast! As you know from time to time I feature inspiring designers. When I discovered Taylor Jacobson Design, I appreciated her style right away so I asked her to participate in a Q & A with me. I think you’ll agree, her portfolio is filled with layered and beautiful inspiration for decorating your home with timeless appeal, character, and sophistication. Taylor truly has the ability to cross over all styles, her interiors are classic with touches of modern, and her contemporary spaces are balanced by traditional elements. She’s not afraid of color and uses it both boldly and as an accent. She was so kind to answer a few design related questions about her portfolio and some generic design questions too. Enjoy!
Q: I notice you use unique and beautiful furniture to create focal points in spaces, which adds so much character to a space. What are other ways you suggest to inject personality into a home? A home should reflect its inhabitants! I always encourage my clients to display books, art, family photos and keepsakes. That layer of ‘artifact’ is what truly makes a house a home. There’s nothing I love more than a huge bookcase displaying well loved books mixed in with framed artwork, pretty objects, beautiful bookends, even small scale lighting. Another way to inject personality into a space is with vintage furniture, rugs, or lighting. The sense of history in older pieces adds warmth and patina to rooms.
Q: I love your use of stack bond installation in a recent home renovation. What are your thoughts on stack bond compared to more traditional installations like brick pattern or subway? Was it requested by the client, or suggested by you, and why? I think the stack bond tile installation imparts a more modern look, and in the case of my Beverly Glen kitchen and bath remodel I loved that layout juxtaposed with the handmade tile we selected. The shape and glaze on the tile was a bit irregular, but the straight match installation looked very clean so we struck a nice balance there.
Q: What are some tips you can share on mixing patterns? Many people get nervous about it, do you have any go to guidelines? A general rule of thumb is to keep your color palette consistent and to mix smaller patterns with large. I also think of stripes almost as a neutral – a simple stripe fabric can mix with just about anything.
Q: I’d love your perspective on wallpaper. So many people I know are too shy to commit to it, but it makes a stunning statement. Do you find your clients request bold patterns, or do you suggest them because of the impact they make? Usually if a client is requesting wallpaper in the first place, they’re after a bold look so yes – my use of wallpaper tends to make quite a statement. Powder rooms are popular for wallpaper and it’s fun to have a pop in a smaller space – less of a commitment. I’m also a fan of grasscloth which is subtler and a nice way to incorporate texture and warmth into a space.
Q: Beyond framed artwork and paintings, you also incorporate sculptural wall art in your space designs. Where do you source these interesting pieces? Are they commissioned or do you have favorite vendors or artists you rely on? Mid century artists like C. Jere made interesting brass wall sculptures – they are quite easy to find on Chairish, 1st Dibs, or Etsy. I love trolling my local flea markets and antique stores for interesting three dimensional pieces. Heather Levine is a Los Angeles based artist who makes gorgeous wall hangings incorporating ceramics and wood.

These mattresses are tightly-rolled for shipping and shipped directly to customers in packages small and light enough for a single person to carry, also eliminating the inconvenience of having to schedule delivery or coordinate help loading and unloading an ungainly and heavy load into a house or apartment. The convenience factor is huge, and purchasing a mattress via the internet can help to avert numerous frustrations, particularly for young people and renters without a great deal of free time to visit a showroom and organize transportation. But for many, a visit to a showroom is a guarantee that the mattress they’re buying is the mattress they want. After all, it’s impossible to re-pack an unrolled mattress and ship it back, and not all manufacturers offer the same guarantees. Simba Mattress Rated and ReviewedWhile the conventional wisdom of brick-and-mortar stores’ advertising leans heavily on old refrains about how much care needs to be taken to find the perfect mattress, manufacturers like Simba have taken an alternate tack, producing a highly adaptable mattress that makes use of the latest materials to produce a mattress that will accommodate all types of sleepers. It is worth noting that Simba has been in the business for almost 40 years as a textile manufacturer; they have been suppliers to many international mattress builders for decades longer than some of their competitors have existed. The Simba Hybrid mattress series is the product of this experience, and there is a marked difference in its finish and quality versus that of many other manufacturers in its market segment. The Simba Hybrid is made up of five individual layers: the first is a hypoallergenic top layer, designed for airflow and allowing the mattress to breathe. The second layer from the top is 40mm of a proprietary synthetic latex, Simbatex, which prevents heat from becoming trapped in the outer layers of the mattress. Beneath this is a layer of 2500 conical-shaped springs, providing fine-tuned support for all types of sleepers and sleeping positions. These springs are supported by a layer of memory foam, and this, in turn, rests on a thick supportive foam base. If this sounds needlessly complicated, it’s not – the Simba Hybrid is just that, a hybrid of the best available technologies. Technologically Advanced MattressSimba’s international competitors in the mail-order mattress segment – Endy or Casper, to name a couple – are largely entrepreneur-driven startups targeting a young demographic for whom a large part of the draw is convenience. Although they’ve spared countless young people the experience of taking public transit to a showroom and fending off aggressive salespeople, very few if any of Simba’s competitors can claim to be bona fide experts in the business of mattress-making. If this is a hindrance to widespread adoption of the mail-order model or a hang-up for potential customers, Simba’s design is intended to establish confidence in not only their brand but in the market itself. Simba boasts the only easily-shippable mattress that combines layers of supportive foam and memory foam with a well-supported layer of springs designed to offer the best of both designs. Many back pain sufferers have reported positive results, and the Hybrid is by far superior to a roll-packed spring mattress the likes of which you might find at a certain Scandinavian big-box retailer. While customers have reported that the mattress is too warm, these reports are few and far between, and all things considered I did not have this experience. The Hybrid mattress will need to settle and air out after shipping – many reviewers report that the mattress retains the smell of the new materials for a couple of days after unpacking – but Simba reports no harmful materials (ozones, flame retardants, heavy metals, e.g., mercury or lead) are used in their manufacture. The foam components of the mattress are certified by CertiPUR, guaranteeing that they are free of the same list of contaminants, including formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds. Hybrid is the FutureThe idea of a hybrid mattress may not be new, but it is very well-executed in the Simba Hybrid – the mattress is well-appointed, carefully stitched and uniformly responsive to the different pressures applied by different sleeping positions. Additionally, Simba provides a significant amount of detail on the materials used and the mattress’ construction, down to the size of the springs and the characteristics of the different layers of foam. For first-time buyers hesitant to spend their money on a mattress that they haven’t had a chance to try out, a great deal of information is available, and the Simba is also offered in many brick-and-mortar stores. Unlike Endy or Casper, it is entirely possible to try the Hybrid before you invest in it. The Simba Hybrid mattress is extremely comfortable – even as a showroom model, it would far exceed what you might expect from an economy-priced mattress. At a low cost starting price, it’s significantly cheaper than many mattresses of equal quality and manufacture. In a market segment full of heavy foam slabs whose chief advantage is ease of access, the Hybrid stands out as the first genuinely luxurious mattress whose manufacturer was already invested heavily in the sleep products industry. Overall, I expect that more manufacturers will follow suit and re-examine their offerings. Simba’s foray into the mail order segment marks the first luxury offering in a market already well-represented by new players’ frugal mattress options. In addition to a 10-year guarantee on materials and workmanship, Simba offers a 100-night guarantee. If you are not satisfied with any aspect of the mattress, Simba will offer you a full refund and have a courier collect the mattress from your home; the mattress doesn’t need to be kept in a plastic cover for the duration of the 100 days and mattresses that have been slept on are accepted in the terms of Simba’s guarantee. All in all, Simba has done a significant amount of work to take the risk out of purchasing a mattress online. It will be interesting to see what offerings their competitors come up with to match Simba’s offering. from Otomo - Blog https://www.otomo.co.uk/blogs/news/simba-hybrid-mattress-review-a-luxury-offering-at-economy-prices from https://otomouk.tumblr.com/post/174828765218 Free printable pack includes:

The post Real Party: Palms & Pineapples appeared first on Party Pieces Blog & Inspiration. from https://blog.partypieces.co.uk/real-parties/real-party-palms-pineapples/ I spent last week in Las Vegas, visiting relatives, relaxing with my family, and spending a lot of time in the pool. I wrote about this pool remodel a few years ago and it’s a fantastic place to play when when we’re in town and the weather is good. We sure going to miss it when we list the house at the end of the summer. It’s tradition each summer to buy new pool floats for the kids, Target had a fun selection which is where I bought the pizza slice and watermelon ring float. My two munchkins played with them all week, look at those faces, they just keep getting bigger *sigh*.
There’s something about a cool pool float that makes water play even more fun. And let’s face it, when they’re unique, you’ll get a great picture too (hello Instagram). I rounded up a few fun favorites: Urban Outfitters has a ton of cute pool floats like these four:

Two tragic losses and I’m devastated by the news. Kate Spade was such a light in the design world, and Anthony Bourdain an inspiration to so many, especially those of us who love to travel. My heart is so heavy. I struggle to understand how this happens, to find the right words to say, and to learn as much as I can about depression and mental health. We lost a family friend to suicide a month ago, a death I’m still trying to wrap my head around and why he made that choice. My sister lives with a chronic pain condition and she has educated me so much about why people consider and ultimately choose suicide. She shared this article on the reasons people attempt suicide with me this morning and some personal insight I found so helpful. We must as a society reach out and help those who struggle, to give them the space to open up about it so we can support and hopefully save them. I welcome your thoughts on this issue, and any insight you may have too.
